Paint by Numbers from Your Pet Photo
A custom paint by numbers kit turns a photo into numbered regions with a matching palette. It is a relaxing project and doesn't need any drawing skill.
What you get
- A numbered outline page sized for A4 printing
- A palette sheet with every colour and its number
- A finished reference picture so you know what you are aiming for
How many colours?
About 18 colours keeps a pet recognisable without hundreds of tiny regions. Fewer colours give bigger, easier regions. More colours give more detail but take longer.
Paper or canvas
- Heavy paper (200 g/mยฒ or more): print the outline directly and paint with acrylics or gouache.
- Canvas: print the outline, then trace it onto canvas with a light box or a window.
Mixing paints
You don't need 18 tubes. Most colours can be mixed from white, black, a warm brown, yellow ochre, red and blue. Match each mix against the palette sheet in daylight.
Best photos
Clear lighting and a pet that fills the frame. The background becomes a single soft colour, so the pet stays the subject.
