About PetMagi pet name lists
How we choose, explain and update the 561 names in our generator and 60 name lists.
Who makes these lists
PetMagi Names is written and maintained by TanLabs Studio, the small team behind PetMagi pet portraits. The name generator runs entirely in your browser: nothing you choose is uploaded or stored, there is no sign-up and no advertising.
Where the names and meanings come from
- Every name has a short meaning or origin. Meanings are summarised from common name and etymology references (language of origin, literal meaning) and checked before a name is added.
- Pop-culture names say where they come from — a book, film, carol or legend — with the year where it helps (for example Rudolph, 1939 story).
- Breed and colour pages describe well-known, general characteristics of the breed (where it was developed and what it was bred for). We avoid health or behaviour claims.
- Pronunciations and spellings vary between languages and regions; we give the most common English form.
What “trending” means here
We do not publish popularity rankings or statistics we cannot link to. Seasonal and “trending” pages, such as Trending pet names 2026 and Christmas pet names, are our editors’ picks, tied to real calendar events. For official popularity data, look for the annual lists from pet insurers and kennel clubs in your country.
